Can't add items to the task bar

Hello,

I have tried numerous times to add a shortcut that I created that points to the C drive, to the task bar in Windows 7 Home premium.

I can't drop and drag the shortcut to the taskbar. I get some message that says to pin it to something else. That isn't what I want.

I can do this with no problem in windows XP and Vista, but in Windows 7, it is a problem. I;ve only had this laptop for a day, so I doubt that I have done anything to mess it up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
